Wysoka

Location  Jordanow District, border area of Podhale and Orava regions, Poland.

Gmina Jordanów is made up of five villages: Łętownia, Naprawa, Osielec, Toporzysko and Wysoka. All of these areas, apart from Łętownia, are located close to the source of the Skawa River and its associated streams. Łętownia is located on Łękawka River. The surrounding country side is beautiful.

(Wysoka surroundings)

The area has beautiful mountains and there are many modern day world class hiking areas in the region.

The region is rich in history and a fine location to enjoy the civilization of Europe.

(Coat of Arms)

In the village you can find a monument to the heroes lead by Colonel Stanisław Maczek who defended the local people against the nazi invaders on September 1st and 2nd 1939. The Nazis took reprisals on Wysoka against local resistance. After 1945 the village was the first place in Poland to be granted the Grunwald Cross Order in recognition for its efforts against the Nazis.

The Arts

A Club for Young Sculptors was founded in 1999, as a cultural-educational organization concerned with helping children to develop their artistic skills. A young artist, Stanislaw Szeliga, opened the club in Wysoka village, Jordanow District, after having observed that young people were very interested in his work. Children can make use of a special studio and take part in workshops. The best sculptures are exhibited in local galleries and during craft-fairs etc. The children's work, particularly sculptures of small angels, has been greatly admired by visitors, and so the club has started local production of the angels. The angel is the symbol of both the club and Wysoka village.
